E-3 Visa Holders: Important Update
Two major policy changes will now affect all E-3 visa applicants: End of Mail-In Renewals and Mandatory Home-Country Processing

1. End of Mail-In Renewals
Effective September 2, 2025: The “mail-in” option for E-3 renewals has been eliminated.
All applicants must now attend an in-person visa interview.
2. Mandatory Home-Country Processing
Effective September 6, 2025: All nonimmigrant visa applicants, including E-3s, must apply in the country of their citizenship or full-time residence.
For Australian citizens, this means E-3 visas must now be obtained in Australia (unless you are legally residing full-time in another country).
This ends the long-standing option of scheduling renewals in nearby third countries such as Mexico, Jamaica, or the UK.
What This Means for You
Plan ahead: If your E-3 visa is expiring, you will need to return to Australia for your next visa interview.
Longer wait times are expected at Australian consulates, so early planning is essential.
If your goal is to simply extend your stay in the U.S., there may be options to do so without leaving the country.
